QID 580550: String Fields Accurate Format Mismatches Schema Definition

In this scenario string fields with format defined are tested. Values for string fields that are similar to format defined but not very accurate are sent to the server for the endpoint being tested.The expectation is that APIs will reject the request as invalid for fields with recognized formats. Some of the known formats are: date, date-time, password, uuid, email, hostname, ip, uri, byte, binary

Based on testing done using requests with values closer to formats defined but not exact format expected it is determined that the strings format as defined in the swagger file are not matching. The response code received for the request with invalid format values for string fields is not expected and does not match the response documented in the swagger file schema.

Enforcing value for string field based on format defined in swagger file will help provide clarity to the API users and avoid abuse of the API by hackers.

Solution

Please update the API endpoint response to match the swagger schema definition or update the schema to match the server response.
