The file command is used to identify a particular file according to the type of data contained by the file.
File can identify many different file types, including elf binaries, system libraries, rpm packages,and different graphics formats.
Security fix(es): cdf_read_property_info in cdf.c in file through 5.37 does not restrict the number of cdf_vector elements, which allows a heap-based buffer overflow (4-byte out-of-bounds write).(cve-2019-18218) the elf parser in file 5.08 through 5.21 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a large number of notes.(cve-2014-9620)
