QID 730066: MRTG Configuration Generator Path Disclosure Vulnerability

MRTG (Multi Router Traffic Grapher) is a tool used to monitor traffic load on network links. MRTG Configuration Generator is a configuration file generator for devices being monitored on a network.

A vulnerability has been reported in mrtg.cgi that could allow a malicious user to view the full path to the Web root. If a user submits an HTTP request to a host containing unusual characters, the server will return an error page containing the path to the Web root.

QID Detection Logic:
This QID checks for the vulnerable version of MRTG by sending GET request to mrtg.cgi webpage.

If this vulnerability is exploited and the path to the Web root is disclosed, a malicious user can use it to launch further attacks against the host.

CVSS V2 rated as Medium - 5 severity.
