QID 730785: WordPress Plugin Download Manager Insufficient Cryptography Vulnerability

WordPress plugin Download Manager is vulnerable to brute force attack.

The plugin uses the uniqid php function to generate the master key for a download, allowing an attacker to brute force the key with reasonable resources giving direct download access regardless of role based restrictions or password protections set for the download.

Affected Versions:
Download Manager WordPress plugin versions prior to 3.2.39

QID Detection Logic(Unauthenticated): This unauthenticated detection depends on the BlindElephant engine to detect the vulnerable version of the Download Manager plugin.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow an attacker to brute force the key with reasonable resources giving direct download access.

CVSS V3 rated as High - 7.5 severity.

CVSS V2 rated as Medium - 5 severity.

Solution

Customers are advised to install Download Manager plugin version 3.2.39 or later version to remediate this vulnerability.
