QID 983502: Java (maven) Security Update for org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore (GHSA-5hv6-mh8q-q9v8)

Security update has been released for org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore to fix the vulnerability. Note: The preceding description block is extracted directly from the security advisory. Using automation, we have attempted to clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Any user with SCRIPT right (EDIT right before XWiki 7.4) can gain access to the application server Servlet context which contains tools allowing to instantiate arbitrary Java objects and invoke methods that may lead to arbitrary code execution.

CVSS V3 rated as Critical - 8.8 severity.

CVSS V2 rated as Critical - 9 severity.

Solution

It has been patched in both version XWiki 12.5 and XWiki 11.10.6.Workaround:
The only workaround is to give SCRIPT right only to trusted users.
