Microsoft Windows 2000 Telnet Service DoS Vulnerability

A vulnerability exists in Windows 2000 telnet service which could enable a user to cause the service to crash.

If a client makes numerous connections to the host in a particular way, the telnet service could begin to consume all available system resources and eventually crash.

No further technical details have been provided.

Solution / Fix

Microsoft Windows 2000 Telnet Service DoS Vulnerability

Solution:
Microsoft has released a patch for Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Professional and Server which rectifies this issue. Microsoft has advised that Windows 2000 Datacenter Server patches are hardware specifice and should be obtained by the original equipment manufacturer.
